“A secret spot!”
The “Al Bacco” is not so easy to find. But walking and searching pays out. Super good food and original place! Don’t be irritated by the simple look. You will feel welcome and go home happy. Thank you!
“Authentic, friendly local seafood restaurant”
I went to O.A.L. with a friend last night after stumbling across it in the back canals of Cannaregio. Impressed by the prices, friendliness of the staff, and the fact that only locals were dining there, we got a table for two by the canal. They graciously went out of their way to get us the table and gave us prosecco while we waited.
We asked the waitor for his recommendations, and had the fish carpaccio – genuinely fresh, delicious salmon, tuna, and monkfish. The mains were monkfish and pistachio and salmon with fennel purée. All meals looked spectacular and tasted amazing, even by our “foodie” standards which are picky and judgemental.
I’m glad I didn’t read the other reviews before eating here as I would have been put off. I can only assume the diners with reviews below ordered the dud options from the menu and didn’t ask for their special recommendations. I couldn’t be happier with our choice to eat here so I am going out of my way to give the restaurant a 5 star review.
Oh and the total price for 3 course meal for two was 86 euro, which is practically what one would pay at another restaurant for two pizzas. By Venice standards, this place is very affordable.
Great osteria in Fondamenta Delle Cappuccine, Cannareggio.
(Note: some internet directions including Ttipadvisor have a different address in Cannareggio).
Authentic homemade food, reasonable price around 15 -20 euro for main courses, mainly specialising in fish. We tried spaghetti with salmon and monk fish with pistachio sauce. Staff are able to make American style coffee as well as Italian expresso. Relaxed service.
Wonderful atmosphere and also a rear courtyard. Great place to eat, drink and relax. It is away from tourist areas and mainly local Venetians eat there. We are returning soon, it was that good!
“So good we went back…twice!”
Situated in Canneveggio this small canal side restaurant serves excellent, reasonably priced, food and wine. Lots of home made recipes ad a Panna Cotta to ‘die’ for. Half a litre of house red cost just 7 Euro. It was served chilled…and it was excellent! In the end we ate there 3 times during our 7 night stay, we enjoyed it so much! It might have been 4 times, but they were closed on one evening. Seemingly the bars and restaurants in the area “take turns” to close at least one evening per week
